Toddler Fall Craft: Leaf "Stained Glass"

The leaves have started to actually fall from the trees, even in sunny SoCal. Hulk and I walked around our neighborhood to collect some of the prettiest colored ones for this week's art project - "stained glass" leaves.

For his one you'll need paper plates, contact paper, and plenty of fall leaves.

Start by cutting the center out of paper plates (two plates per "stained glass" window.) Then cut two sheets of contact paper per window, make sure the contact paper covers the whole opening and then some (mine was 13x13 cm.) Stick one sheet on one plate, if your paper plate has decorations you want to show off place it so the sticky side of the paper is up when you see that side. Now, have your kid stick the leaves to the paper - easy peasy.

After they are happy with their design of leaves stick the other piece of contact paper down to seal it. Then glue the other plate to complete the frame. The back of the picture will have the contact paper, so if you want to cover that you would need to glue a third plate to it. You could press the completed project by putting a bag of rice on top of it for a couple days, if you so desire. If you have plain white plates you could get your little one to decorate the edges, but of course mine had zero interest in that.

When done stick a hole in the top, tie a ribbon, and hang it in a sunny spot. Once Hulk saw the finished product he wanted to do another one, so I say this is a win.
