T-Shirt Upcycle

I attend lots of events that give out free shirts, which leaves me with lots of over-sized shirts I never wear. I decided to see what I could do with one of them without any sewing (I am terrible at sewing) and this is what I came up with: Upcycled large T-Shirt First, I cut the neck wide starting at about three inches from the sleeve. Then I cut the sleeves at an angle from the armpit to the seam. And I took an inch off the bottom along the seam. With the neck, arms, and bottom cuts. Now I wanted to add some accents to the sides and I followed the t-shirt weaving turtorial on the Happy Together blog . First I cut small finger-width slits along the sides. I didn't want big gaps so each slit was only about an inch long. Slits cut down the side Then I weaved it together following the pattern and each side looked like this: Woven sides of the shirt. And this is what it looks like on: Tightly woven on the sides I think this turned into a shirt

DIY Earbud Cord Wrap

Earbud headphone cords are notorious for getting tangled. You can prevent this by making the cord thicker. I saw this example using embroidery thread. They didn't have instructions, but since I used to be quite skilled at making friendship bracelets I tried to figure it out. What you need: Earbuds, embroidery thread, clipboard You will need about 3 times the length of the earbuds in each color of the embroidery thread. That's about 5 yards each, your average skein of thread is about 8.7 yards so that's plenty. Start by tying the thread to the earbuds, I chose to start in the end that goes into my phone. Just a regular old knot will do. Since I couldn't pin it to my jeans like I used to with the bracelets, I decided to clip it to the clipboard. How to Effie Trinket Cosplay

Just got back from Comic Con 2012. This year I decided to join up with all the wonderful Cosplayers out there and went as Effie Trinket from the Hunger Games. As I don't have very many sewing skills, nor a lot of money, I decided to try and hobble something together from thrift stores. Here is the final look: Effie Trinket - Hunger Games - Cosplay - Comic Con 2012 I know it is not an exact replica of her reaping outfit, but I must say everyone knew who I was. Walking around the Con people were calling me Effie. One girl ran across the room, just to hug me so I guess it worked. For those of you who aren't familiar with The Hunger Games, here is what Elizabeth Banks portraying Effie looked like: Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket and Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss So, as you can see, my costume is more in the style of Effie than an exact copy.
