Ballerina Dalek Cosplay

For this year's Comic Con, I cosplayed as the Ballerina Dalek from the "Asylum of the Daleks."

Ballerina Dalek

Overall, it was a fairly easy costume to put together.  I found a white dress at a thrift shop for $3.  For the hemis or sense globes, I cut styrofoam balls in half, covered them in gray fabric and then spray painted them with brushed nickel spray paint (because I didn't like how the color of the fabric ended up looking.)  I sewed the globes on the dress and made sure to leave space in the back so I could sit down.  I used silver ribbon on the top to look like a grid.  The Dalek "ears" are dixie cups spray painted and I sewed hair clips to them.  The rest is a red wig, crown, tutu, plunger spray painted brushed nickel, and a whisk.

I wrote a little history for the Ballerina Dalek:

The Ballerina Dalek dancing.
When she was created on Skaro, she knew she was different.  While the other Daleks were busy exterminating all she wanted to do was dance.  Those in charge would pull her aside and remind her that she was a Dalek and Daleks exterminate.  That is what they do; they don’t dance.
The other Daleks spent hours making fun of her.  They started calling her the Little Ballerina.  In Skaro, this was one of the worst insults, but she just took it in stride.  They never could understand her.  She would just spin and dance.  If anyone cared to ask she called herself the Ballerina and in her mind she was a beautiful ballerina with a tutu and a crown with flowing red hair.
Everyday the ones in charge came to her and told her to she had to exterminate and everyday she would refuse.  After months of her refusals, she was deemed to be one of the ones you can’t control and taken to the Asylum, a planet where they keep Daleks who have gone insane.
In the Asylum, she would just continue to spin and dance all day everyday and no one there ever noticed her, until visitors arrived.  The one with the legs and long red hair saw her for who she really is, a beautiful ballerina with a tutu and a crown with flowing red hair.
How she sees herself.
